Maki Karino First appearance: Nightmare Village An overly curious and investigative police officer who is mentally overtaken by the Nightmare. Ayako brings her to her senses, but still ends up being unable to escape. Rui Mai First appearance: Nightmare Village A shrine maiden fated to battle against the Nightmare in all ages. Though her name is Rui Mai in this age, her true name is unknown. Until she seals the Nightmare, her shrine maiden memories will remain lost. The Finale To Our First Series The “Nightmare” is an urban legend involving otherwise healthy girls becoming trapped in eternal sleep. The cause of the incident is a monster that feeds on despair and mental anguish. There exists a shrine maiden named Rui that battles the monster, but it has become strong after consuming so much despair, and she currently has no power to match up against it.
